The job to be done

Why this product exists.

Problem

New field-service personnel need practice making safe diagnostic and escalation decisions, but real tool-down events are expensive, sensitive, and unsuitable as a first training environment.

What it does

ToolDown presents two fictionalized, four-stage semiconductor field-service scenarios. Branch choices expose consequences and unsafe hard stops while scoring safety discipline, diagnostic reasoning, escalation judgment, and evidence quality. Completed attempts create local instructor records and exportable decision evidence.

How it works

One controlled path through the handoff.

  1. 01

    Receive the event

Review the symptoms, tool state, alarms, constraints, documentation, and safety context for a fictionalized incident.

  2. 02

    Make decisions

Choose diagnostic, safety, communication, documentation, recovery, or escalation actions and see critical-stop consequences.

  3. 03

    Debrief and improve

Review the scored decision path, missed evidence, safety flags, reporting quality, and recommended corrective actions.

Concrete example

What the workflow looks like in practice.

A trainee receives a vacuum-related tool-down scenario with ambiguous alarms. They must establish safe state, collect the right evidence, avoid an unsafe intervention, communicate status, and decide whether to continue diagnosis or escalate. The trainee can export and share the decision trail and skill breakdown with an instructor.

Inputs and outputs

What goes in. What comes out.

Inputs and context

  • Trainee or learner name
  • Selected fictionalized scenario
  • Decision at each of four stages

Resulting record

  • Scored diagnostic decision trail
  • Unsafe hard stops and decision consequences
  • Four-dimension readiness profile
  • Coaching and final debrief
  • Local instructor ledger
  • JSON and CSV evidence exports

Where it fits

Distinct role. Clear handoff.

ToolDown is job-scenario practice and readiness scoring. Mastriva is exam preparation. Operational Readiness Pack tests the surrounding controls, ownership, evidence, and go-live posture for a real deployment or pilot.

Current boundaries

What this product is not.

These limits are part of the product decision. They are shown before the launch link so the current scope is clear.

  • The scenarios are fictionalized and do not disclose or reproduce customer-confidential tool procedures.
  • The simulator is not OEM certification, fab authorization, a live equipment interface, or a replacement for supervised hands-on qualification.
  • The current library contains two generic scenarios and local browser records; it is not a complete course, cloud LMS, VR environment, or unrestricted chatbot.
